News - Help for heroes

Since the 1 st May servicemen and women on military establishments around the UK have been raising funds for Help for Heroes (H4H) each time they withdraw cash from one of Forces Financial's free-to-use cash machines. A donation of 5p is made to H4H every time a withdrawal is made using the Fast Cash screen on the machines, and almost £5,000 has been raised for the charity in the first month of this fundraising scheme.

Since 2007 military financial services specialist Forces Financial has been installing free-to-use cash machines in partnership with independent ATM operator Bank Machine; providing a free, fully serviced facility in many military locations that previously had no choice but to install charging machines. Over 80 machines are now operating across the Services, and since their introduction personnel and their families have saved well over £3m in transaction fees. Now they can both save and trigger a donation to H4H.

But it needn't stop there. Forces Financial invites enquiries for the installation of further machines, and asks for the support of base commanders to encourage those under their command to make maximum use of the facility for the benefit of their serving colleagues, as well as those whose lives will be improved by the work of H4H.

Commenting on the launch Al Voice, MD of Forces Financial said:

‘We are always looking for ways to back the work of our Armed Forces and salute Bank Machine for supporting this initiative, which will drive valuable funds to one of the nation's most popular forces charities. The success of the scheme lies with the service community, and so I would urge them make the most of this opportunity to support our wounded servicemen and women by visiting one of our free-to-use machines when they wish to withdraw their cash.'

Bryn Parry, Chief Executive of Help for Heroes went on to say:

‘Help for Heroes believes that anyone who volunteers to serve in time of war, knowing that they may risk all, is a hero. We are always immensely grateful for new and innovative fundraising ideas and this is an inspirational initiative from Forces Financial.

To date the Great British public has raised over £19 million to support our blokes. We have allocated the first £8M to Headley Court . Grants have also been made to Troop Aid, Battle Back, SSAFA and Combat Stress. We are now working on a project to fund Army Recovery Centres to help soldiers launch back into their lives after sustaining injuries.‘
